The True Lesson of Life imparted by B.D.M.I
The wintry morning of 16th December, 2017 started for the members of B.D.M.I in a unique and exceptional way. Twenty two (22) residents along with the superintendent of the Tollygunge Home – a home for the aged, ten students and five teachers of our school visited the Swaminarayan Temple at Pailan and the Judge’s ghat to enjoy the day to our heart’s content. The journey started on a sweet note literally with chocolates, cake and orange followed by ‘Antakshari’ a musical encounter in the school bus between the ‘aged’ and the ‘young’. The enthusiastic students, the teachers and all the senior citizens took part in the same where the old people really proved that ‘age’ is just a number. The one hour stay at the temple was truly a spiritual journey and destination for all of us and we enjoyed clicking photographs and relishing hot coffee in the cafeteria to refresh and reenergize ourselves for the next part of the trip – visit to the Ganges. Having finished the refreshments on bus we reached the Judges’ Ghat at around 2 pm to feast our eyes with the beauty of the holy river, the boats and steamers sailing and the distant view of the Second Hoogly Bridge. Sitting under the shades of the spreading branches of the trees we were sipping soft drinks and having a sweet ‘We Time’ that was captured in cameras. On our way back ‘home’ all of us waved back at each other with a happy but heavy heart. Service to Community is a part of education in our school and the students really learnt how to care for the aged and enjoy with them as life is not to be lived in isolation. This day will forever be etched in our memory album.
