Workshop on ‘How to Read a Film’
17th July, 2020
On 13th July, 2020 B.D.M. International in collaboration with Bichitra Pathshala organised a workshop on ‘How to Read a Film’. The Guest Speaker for the day was renowned Media teacher and documentary filmmaker Ms. Subha Das Mollick. The workshop began with the discussion about the Lumiere Brothers’ style of film-making and how George Melies used his affinity with magic to try to recreate plots based on fantasy.
Ms. Mollick further enlightened the students about the various elements of visual language. She summed up the session by explaining that, in order to “read a film” one needs to analyse the director’s style, setting, characterization, thematic links, camera work, lighting, sound and music. The Senior-Secondary students of the school thoroughly enjoyed the workshop and could comprehend that like any other form of art, films too are also meant to be felt and understood to appeal to varied emotions and different minds.
